Chandrashekhar Azad Park

Alfred Park or Company Garden is the biggest park in Allahabad spread over an area of 133 acres.
It is renamed after freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad who sacrificed his life here during the Indian freedom struggle in 1931.

On 27 February 1931 Azad went to Alfred park of Allahabad and met revolutionary colleague Sukhdev Raj. The police were notified of his location. He had to face armed police, and in the process of killing three policemen he was wounded. But holding true to its pledge to never to be captured alive, he shot himself with his last bullet.
